Tony Alessandra has some good thoughts on the importance of setting your goals, and believing you'll achieve them. In sales, believing in what you're selling - and your ability to sell it - can make the difference between an award winning career and a never ending trek through the classified ads. Here's "Dr. T" with more: There is a big overlap between the emotional and the psychological aspects of image. However, for our purposes, emotional is how you feel about yourself and your goals and psychological is how you think about them. Do you think of your goals as achievable? Do you think of yourself as a can-do person?
You've heard the old saying, "I'll believe it when I see it"? Well, the reverse is also true: "I'll see it when I believe it!" You are probably familiar with affirmations (positive statements you repeat to yourself) and visualizations (mental pictures of favorable situations). Well, they may not seem true at first. They may not even be true! However, they can become so.
Writing your affirmations down in some handy place - above your desk, on your bathroom mirror, on the dashboard of your car - will help keep them in mind as well as in sight. In addition, visualize, in as much detail as possible, how you will feel as the boss singles you out for exceeding your quota... or how the audience will hang on every word during your speech... or how your confident presence will turn heads everywhere you go.
