If you want to take a shortcut to selling success, you may not need to look any further than the desk next to you (assuming that the person you sit next to at your office is a really good sales pro, that is).
You might call it "monkey see, monkey do". At least that's what author and business pro Larry Fredericks calls this strategy. He recommends that you mimick the traits of successful salespeople that you observe:
"Here are the basic steps for using mimicry to persuade people in all kinds of situations - at work or at home - to change their behavior:
- Identify the behavior you'd like your target to emulate.
- Create a situation where your target will be able to see the desired behavior.
- Make sure your target is clearly able to see the rewards associated with that behavior.
You don't need to be a natural salesman to master the art of persuasion. All you need to do is learn a few of the many proven techniques that are already available."
It's great advice! The best lessons on how to become a great sales professional are probably all around you. Now its up to you to learn those lessons, and apply them to your sales career.
