The Pursuit of Happyness

I just saw the new Will Smith movie, "The Pursuit of Happyness".  It's the true story of Chris Gardner, who worked his way up from homeless father to millionaire stock broker.

Wow, what a trip it was.  The movie was wonderful, and Will Smith did an outstanding job with his role of Gardner.  Furthermore, Smith's real life son plays his son in the movie.  He was great, too.  The whole movie was great.  Even my popcorn had an added buttery goodness!

Why am I raving so much here at LandingTheDeal about a movie?  Because inspiration and motivation are very, very, VERY important for those of us in sales and business.  For that reason, these kinds of movies are a great boost.

Do yourself a favor and see this movie.  It's a true story that will give you a new perspective on what work ethic really is, and what raw determination can do for one's career.

Hi there,

For me this is all about a father's love. Even when this father forces his son to abandon his beloved Captain America doll so that they can catch a bus to stand in line for a bed at Glide Memorial Church, we see the love of this father for his son.

Chris Gardner vowed to have a relationship with his son, come hell or high water. And in the film of his life story,The Pursuit of Happyness, both come to him and his only son Christopher in abundance.

Keep up the blog, it's great!

Yes - and what's better is that the two themes of motivation and perserverance along with fatherhood are, in my opinion linked by one fundamental theme that we can all learn from - honesty and integrity.

Think about it - as times get desparate (and what speaks to desparation more than sleeping with his son in the bathroom of a subway station), our ability to maintain integrity and honesty is what will get us back on the right track.

If he had given in to dishonesty or lost his integrity - at that point in his life neither his dream of becoming a financial wiz or raising his child with integrity and values could have been realized.

Awesome movie full of lessons - I think I'll go see it again.

Cheers...

Jeff

Well I guess this movie proves that business people like successful brokers do have a personal life after all. Many people wonder about this aspect...
