Dan, a reader of the blog here at LandingTheDeal, comments on my recent post asking whether anyone would buy chocolate that costs $2000 a pound. And, he makes some good points...
The hand wringing seems strange, especially from marketers. I mean,
Tiffany's sterline silver isn't particularly special either...it's the
little blue box that delivers the message and creates the experience. I
saw, felt and lifted the stainless steel packaging used by NOKA and it is clear that this is a tactile experience that in which the chocolate is a participant but not the driver.
Also, I'm not sure where the story got twisted into suggesting that the couverture used by NOKA is anything sub-par. According to the series on Dallas Food, the source of the chocolate is highly respected. A small point, perhaps, but there is an argument to be made that the product truly is top notch.
Let me note that I was not suggesting that expensive products are somehow a "rip off" or not worth the purchase; on the contrary, part of that "experience" of eating Noka or shopping at Tiffany's or driving a Mercedes is the feeling that it gives you, and that's worth something in my book.
Great points...thanks, Dan!

Just so you know, you've just taken a big mouthful of astroturf.
