I know, I know...the title makes no sense.
That is until you read Ron McDaniels post over at Buzzoodle, who makes an interesting point that the Internet is the new "trunk of the car" that you - or anyone - can sell from and make a buck. Buy something over the Internet, says McDaniel, and you could literally be buying something that's stored under someone's bed. Depending on the product, that might mean nothing...or it might mean everything.
My thought on the whole thing: Eventually, it comes down to the guy doing the selling from the trunk. Stuff is stuff, and a trunk might be the best place to do the selling from. Heck, it worked for Phil Knight, who started selling his weird homemade Nike running shoes from the trunk of his car and it all worked out from him. Trunks are mobile, convenient, dirt cheap and pretty roomy (at least they look roomy when I see Tony Soprano stuff a body into one on HBO).
Like I said, thought, it eventually comes down to the person doing the selling. Phil Knight was a great salesperson. People weren't buying his shoes because they didn't like Puma's anymore, and it wasn't because of his trunk. It was because of Phil.
Learn how to sell effectively, and it doesn't matter where you sell from or what you're selling. Want to sell chocolates from the trunk of your car like the story Ron shared? Learn effective selling skills, and you just might be the next Mary See.
