Got a great reminder from the writer at LearningHorses (unfortunately, I couldn't get her name from her blog).
She liked what I had to say about a dying sales technique, and offered a great reminder to have fun while we're selling! Here's her comment, with my remarks in bold:
First Dan, I really enjoy your blog. It is right on the money and I wish I could make it mandatory reading for people who think sales might be the career for them.
Obviously, this writer is intelligent and insightful.
Regarding making my blog mandatory reading, a call to your Congressman should start the ball rolling.
So many sales people are focused on the sale, the close, that they forget to enjoy the process. Asking questions is fun. You learn about new businesses, new industries, complex problems and benefit personally from the information you are getting. If you ask the right questions and determine the need (helping identify it for the customer as well), often there is no close. Today I customer asked me 'So how do I get started'. I approach every customer like a consultant, asking questions, trying hard to understand his/her business and giving them the best advice I can. And I rarely miss a sale and I'm telling you IT IS SO MUCH FUN.Isn't it fun (and refreshing!) to hear from sales professionals who enjoy what they do? I always enjoy it.
Thanks, Ye Lover of Horses.
Oh, and by the way, in case any of you are wondering what it costs to keep a horse, she has a good rundown of her typical expenses. It's more expensive than you might think!
