I like Norton Anti-Virus. Good company, good protection, never had a problem. If there's a satisfied customer out there, I'm him.
But now its time for my annual renewal. We're not talking major bucks here...probably around $30 or so. And everyday, the software does a great job or reminding me that its time to buy again. I get a little pop-up screen giving me a countdown...."only 28 days left"...then, "only 27 days left"...and on, and on. I think I'm down to 11 days left or something.
Then it hit me: I'm like a lot of your customers out there. If you give me the option of putting off a purchase, I'll put it off. If I know the "deadline" is a ways away, I'll kick back and put you off for a while. I've got other stuff to do anyway, and if I know there's no penalty or consequence to putting you off, I'll do it. You might want to keep that in mind as you start your sales day today and start thinking of that one client you have kept on your business projection forecast for months now.
One more thing: I don't mind if you remind me and "ask for the sale". Norton has been doing that to me for almost a month now, and I don't mind. Keep that in mind, too, as you wonder whether or not to call that prospect again today. You should.

I would like to respond to the Norton virus protection. I renewed in June of 2006 under the same "count down" circumstances. After renewel another annoying pop up from Norton crippled my computer. The solution was to uninstall Norton. I started to use Mozilla as my browser and also use Windows Defender for internet security. As always I don't open attachments from unautherized accounts. The end result has been a revitialized computer that runs better than ever....
