Is it just me, or does the news that Starbucks was caught off-guard by a jump in demand for cold drinks sound crazy???
It's summer.
It's like 143 degrees.
And surprise, surprise...people don't want a hot cup of coffee as much as they do during the blustery winter months. Starbucks says they'll try to adjust their schedules for staff accordingly so that they'll be able to serve customers more effectively and cut their losses while the country goes through it's annual summer melt down.
But really...isn't it surprising that this basic assumption wasn't taken into account prior to the peak summer month of July came and went?

Quite to the contrary, the last few times I've ordered a non-fat latte, the exchange between the barista and I has gone something like this:
Me: I'll have a grande latte with non-fat milk, please.
Barista: You want that cold, right?
Me: Nope.
Barista: Really?
