As mentioned in my previous post, we just had a baby! We're at a local hospital while my wife is recovering from her C-Section and our baby spends some time in the intensive care unit getting rid of some fluid in his lungs (I won't mention the hospital by name...I don't want legions of LandingTheDeal fans showing up stalking me. Or Jaime Brask for that matter).
Its a great hospital, nice staff, good facilities. But its one of about five large hospitals in our area. People have a choice. There are lots of places to have babies around here.
And then it hit me. People don't choose hospitals because of the good stuff they offer, they avoid other hospitals because of the bad stuff they heard about from someone else.
"That place has horrible food."
"That hospital's nurses are really bad."
"They wouldn't let my family come into the room to see the baby be born!"
So, how do you choose your hospital when you have a choice? The nicest building? The best landscaping? The newest? The closest? The one where you haven't heard any horror stories?
Hospitals have a tough job when it comes to marketing. Its getting more competitive out there for health care facilities, and its tough to drill home a message to your "customers" when what you're aiming for is not to be talked about badly.
Just my thoughts. But I'm working on like 4 hours of sleep so I may have no real traction on this one...
