Local TV ads are a hoot sometimes. Most of the time, actually.
I just saw one a few minutes ago advertising a local Dodge dealership promoting their "Shipwreck of Savings" weekend. It was complete with cheesy graphics, pirate sound effects, and a promise to be able to take your picture with a Johnny Depp "Captain Jack" look-a-like with any test drive.
I have a TV background, so I'm thinking that the whole ad campaign cost a few thousand dollars for production and ad time on the cable system I saw it on. Its a big dealership, so I'm sure they can afford it.
But something inside of me asks the question: "What made them do it?" Was it a case of having an ad budget for July, and so they had to spend it on something? Did they throw together another TV spot because they're a car dealership, and that's the only way to lure customers in to buy a car?
Seriously, haven't you watched local dealership ads and wondered "why?!?!" Is that they only method to selling cars??? Bad TV ads???

Actually, there's probably several hundred (of about 22K), that can make good ads. During the 90's; Scott Thomason Auto Group of Gladstone,OR made the best in the Northwest. But he(Scott), bought the ad agency and promoted selection - with fishing tackle and espresso coffee, etc. Most dealers promote vanity and cheap sales tools (IE: flyers, big discounts, direct mailers,etc.).
