Using Video to Sell

Ty, over at PowerSellerKing here on KMM, has an interesting post on a little "experiment" that one of my fellow VM Direct affiliates is conducting.  He's using video to sell an item on eBay, alongside a "regular" static text ad.

The big question: Which one will get the better response?

I don't want to spoil any of the upcoming results, but after using the video e-mail, instant messenger and webcasting products from VM Direct, it shouldn't be any contest...video will win, hands down.

I've said before that video e-mail from VM Direct has changed the way I communicate, and I always get a great reaction from my video e-mail messages.

In fact, here's an example of how video helped "brand" me...this is a true story: Went to a restaurant, walked in, and someone sitting down waiting for their dinner companion looks at me and says, "Hey, I know you!  You sent a guy at my office a video e-mail the other day!"  I couldn't believe it...turns out she works at my insurance agent's office, and I had sent him a video e-mail because I needed to show him a document his office had sent but he wasn't aware of.  I just sent a video e-mail to him, held up the document, showed him what I had a question about.  He liked the e-mail, and then passed it to everyone in his office...including this girl that was now talking to me at the restaurant.  I was a star!

Here's the point: When it comes to selling and marketing yourself, it's important to stand out.  Doesn't matter if you're selling on eBay, or to a Fortune 500 company.  That's why I love video e-mail...it's changed the way I sell, for the better.  And, by the way, it's also a cool business!

Ty's post hit home for me.  It's an excellent example of how technology and selling intermingle.  It's also a great reminder to all of you to stand-out somehow in whatever you do.  Don't settle for ordinary.  Be original.  Do things differently that make people remember you (or even recognize you in a restaurant!).  I use video e-mail to do that, but you can do something else.  Be creative.  Be the best.
