Smart World Cup Marketing by McDonalds?

My vote is no.  I'm not "lovin" the ad I just saw.

Simple reason.  In my previous post, I mused about the effectiveness of sideline marketing during the World Cup.

When I saw the McDonald's ad on the sideline, I really questioned the strategy.  It was an ad that said: "McDonalds...I'm loving it".

That, of course, is their U.S. slogan.  But will it make sense to the Germans? French? The folks from Portugal?  Will they understand the slogan, or did McDonalds just waste an opportunity to brand itself to an international audience?

Just want to tell you that Mcdonalds is also using the slogan and song 'I'm Lovin It' here in the Netherlands. So they are used to it, if its effective I don't know.

Thanks, Cees.

Keep us updated on whats new in the Netherlands!

I believe we have the same slogan in Malaysia. Heck, most McD advertisements in this country are in English anyway. They were probably under the assumption that the majority of soccer fans understand English :)

Please, give a look in Brazilian McDonald's web page: www.mcdonalds.com.br. They have an amazing approach to World Cup (see 'Canal Jovem' and 'Copa 2006')

"I'm lovin' it" is the worldwide mcdonald's claim. the german "ich liebe es" or the french version are just translations of "i'm lovin it".

i agree to your point of view concerning sideline ad. but the claim is not the problem.

by the way. i just ask myself if the sideline ad of avaya is understood by anyone at all, because no one at all knows what avaya produces.
