First in an eleven part series
We've taken a recent post by Seth Godin and broken it into a little eleven part series. It revolves around Seth's advice to the marketing department, from the hard-working sales department. It's a really good post, with some very good observations.
Here's Seth's first message:
Selling is hard. Harder than you may ever realize. So, if I seem stressed, cut me some slack.
Sales professionals have a very difficult job. If you're a sales professional, you already know that.
Selling is the life-blood of any growing organization. It needs to be respected and admired, and the rest of the company needs to realize that little marketing changes, compensation changes and other "adjustments" that tend to come at the expense of the sales department can demotivate sales pros and slow their progress.

Good point. Marketing is only about executing strategies and marketeers rarely see customers. Sales people are the ones who need to make the actual sales cales. They need to face the customers. They need to put on a thick face. They risk getting rejected. And a thousand other potentially unpleasant situations.
