Seth Godin weighs in the difference, from a sales professional's point of view, on a call-in lead vs. a "cold call" lead. Remember, this is a sales professional's message to the marketing department:
There is no comparison, NONE, between an inbound call (one that you created with marketing) and a cold call (one that you instructed me to create with a phone book.) Your job is to make it so I never need to make a cold call.
That really is the job of the marketing department, isn't it? Create opportunities that result in sales. Cold calls are the act of selling minus any real marketing ahead of time. If you're in sales, you know which one is more productive.
