Sixth in a series:
Rock-n-roll Jim Holvay is off and running with his sales career. He's been hired by a Fortune 100 company as a sales representative, and has started his career in Los Angeles.
But remember what he wore to his interview? Well, he still has that blue velvet suit...and its in his daily rotation of what he was wearing to the office when he started his new job...
"I had two good looking suits that I owned, at least in my mind. One was a blue velvet outfit, and the other was a green velvet suit. Both were my favorites from my days in music.
"So, when I started working, I'd wear the blue velvet suit one
day and then the green velvet suit the next day. And I'd just keep that rotation going...they were the best outfits I had, and I really thought I looked gooooooooood.
"After about a month, a manager calls me in to his office. He says to me, 'Jim, I don't know what you did before sales, but I gotta tell you something. You need to dress more professionally when you're here.' I looked at him like he was crazy! I thought he was, actually. I thought I was the best dressed guy in the office, and everybody else looked stupid!
"But he convinced me to go to downtown L.A. to a little mens store there and told me to get a couple of white shirts, some ties, and a blue business suit. So that's what I did."
And so that was the end of Jim's infamous blue and green velvet suit combo. It was fun while it lasted...
