That's me on the right, and as you know from the last few posts I've made we starting a short family vacation by attending my wife's sister's wedding. That's Erin in the background at today's rehearsal with the lucky man, Mike (note how the bride is already telling him what to do...).
I was talking with the photographer during the rehearsal, and she was telling me about a wedding she did a month or so ago. It was the most extravagant affair I've ever heard of:
-
The bride hand-selected musicians from all over the world, including a former member of the band Chicago and a world famous blind pianist. Cost for the music alone was just over $45,000.
-
The meal served was a gourmet five-course steak dinner. The caterers were from the world famous Harris Ranch, which routinely turns out some of the best steaks in the nation. Since they were several hours away, the bride flew them in for the wedding.
-
The gift to the bride and groom from her father was...you guessed it...a new house.
My point, and I do have several, as they relates to sales:
- Try to sell in an industry where your customer suspends common sense during the purchase, and buys with their hearts instead. You'll make a bloody fortune.
- Look into the wedding industry. Yes, its an industry. Flowers for weddings in nice locations can go for many thousands of dollars. That boggles my mind.
- If there's one thing that attending a wedding can teach any sales professional, its this: Someone, somewhere, successfully overcame all of their prospect's objections and doubts and asked for the sale. If my 22 year old sister in law can do it, so can you.
