I think our LandingTheDeal interview series with uber-marketer Seth Godin infected him with a little "sales bug" because he has two really thought provoking posts on sales, sales calls, and sales people.
First, he wonders aloud if sales calls, as we have come to know them, are dead. A lot of what he talks about makes sense (especially his observations on body language!). I might disagree with some of it, which I'll blog about later when I have more time.
Second, he talks about the fear of switching and how that can be a major obstacle in getting your new product or service into a market. His Scrabble example is great...just because it's newer and bigger doesn't mean people should buy it.
As usual, Seth's stuff will get serious sales professionals thinking about the way they approach their craft. That's what I love about him.

A company called Genius.com is running a contest for sales people where they vie for some great prizes and have some fun recalling their sales nightmares. It’s called “The Worst Cold Call Contest” (www.worstcoldcall.com) where sales professionals can compete with their peers for the worst sales call experience by submitting their story online. The contest, which concludes on July 14th, will reward the “best of the worst.” To qualify, sales professionals submit the story of their worst cold call, and entries will be posted online, at www.worstcoldcall.com. Winners will be chosen based on originality, appropriateness and hilarity of the content.
Prizes include a $500 American Express Card gift certificate and other prizes such as a Sharper Image and an Amazon gift certificates and a chance to try out the SalesGenius product free for one year which will help them avoid cold calls in the future and make them even more successful.
