Swinging For the Fence

When you connect, its going, going, GONE!  Barry Bonds has made a nice little name for himself doing that (the whole steroid thing not withstanding...).

CustomerEvalgelists talks about Intuit's award for their employee who "swings for the fences" in the best way every year.  This year's winner had an idea that flopped.  But, he won the award anyway.  Cool!

I love it when forward-thinking companies encourage their people to take risks, make mistakes, and - once in a while - connect with and send it over the fence.

In sales, this kind of thinking is a must.  Experiment with your approach.  Experiment with different closing styles.  Make mistakes.  Strike out.  Find new ways of doing business.

Be brave.  Swing for the fence.

I think that's the biggest lesson an entrepreneur can learn: success is a lot of hardwork and a lot of luck.

Some of my best ideas have made me zero money. Some of my most casual attempts have made me more money than I'd ever anticipated.

Very well said. Lots of hard work, and lots of luck. That's what makes new entrepreneur's obsession with business plans so comical in my view...that biz plan will probably be irrelevant by day 90 of their business, and they'll rely more on the hard work and luck that you spoke about.
