Finally! A subject that I can relate too! College sports marketing and sales (click here).
Great post and analysis by Stan DeVaughn over at BrandingPost about the attempted reinvention of Stanford football. You know its never a good sign when your band is more popular on the field than your
football team, but there is hope for all you frustrated Stanford alums (the picture to the right is of the infamous 1982 game where the Stanford band was celebrating on the field while Cal ran back an amazing kickoff return to win the game, and break the heart of every Stanford fan in the world).
Lots of college teams can turn their sales and marketing efforts around, and can do it rather quickly. Sports can do some things quickly where business can't, as is evidenced by Stanford's arch rivals down the street, the Cal Golden Bears. They're selling out their soon-to-be revamped stadium and have one of the best coaches in the country in Jeff Tedford. Four years ago, they were where Stanford is right now.
