If you're a sales professional, and you're not getting any respect from a customer, you have two choices:
1. Put up with them.
2. Walk away from them.
This is an answer to a question I got from a sales professional who was dealing with a rude, disinterested prospect - one that also could earn the sales pro a hefty commission if he ever gets the sale.
My advice: Walk away. Fire your customer.
Why? Because your time is valuable, too. You're a professional, too. Don't gain a deal but lose your self-respect. Because you know what? Once you got the deal, the customer is really going to start being a jerk: Unreasonable demands, unrealistic expectations...and constant complaints.
So, is that one bg commission check worth months of pain and suffering? No way.
Stand up for yourself (and your self-respect). Heck, you never know...that customer of yours might actually have more respect for you once you lay down the law!
