I must have a target on my back. What a week with telemarketers!
This call was pretty short, due in large part to the unbelievably audacious approach that the rep took with me when I answered the phone.
In short, he was with a phone company and he was basically trying to "slam" our office lines - switch them over to his company's billing. His approach was one of deception from the word go...he was with the "phone company", they wanted to get us on a cheaper plan, it was going to save us money, how many lines did we have with AT&T...
I told him that we did not want to switch companies, and that we were not interested in his offer. Then I hung up.
A few minutes later, I thought about the poor sales guy who called. Can you imagine his work life? He gets on the phone - every day - and sets out to purposely deceive people into switching phone lines using half-truths and shady tactics. What a sad professional life.
No matter what company you work for or what you sell, make sure you can wake up and look at yourself in the mirror every day. Having pride in what you do is important. Seriously, make sure you're doing everything ethically and above-board. Not doing so impacts your self-esteem and outlook on life.
