I just saw a commercial for Western Union. You know, the money wiring people.
Their pitch: Send money overnight to someone through Western Union, and you'll be entered to win $1,000,000!
Flash to a guy in the commericial: "You mean, I could win one million dollars!?!?! Wow...that's great!!!!"
The effect on me? I went got dressed, tore out of my driveway, and immediately sent four moneygrams to friends and family to try and win one million dollars!!!
Yeah, right.
Here's my observation: Isn't it amazing how desensitized we've become? A "one million dollar promotion" doesn't get us that excited anymore. It seems like everyone has tried giving away a million dollars as a part of a promotion before. The result? Another million dollar promotion doesn't get me excited anymore...it doesn't stand out...it doesn't sell.
Is it the same for you?

In my opinion, it would only motivate those who are already in the store, ready to wire some cash to someone.
I am amazed at the "money store" type commercials and the endless number of car commercials too. Then I realize I am just not in their market right now.
When I was looking for a new car a few months back, though, I was shushing people when car commercials came on.
"Hold on a sec... I'm doing research."
