When I heard that Ernesto was now in sales, it surprised me. A lot.
I first got to know him as one of the programmers at a technology company that did a lot of work for a company that I used to run. He was always pleasant, always got his stuff done, and was generally "on the ball." I enjoyed interacting with him.
But, come on...a computer programmer? Selling? And liking it??? This I had to see....
It was the first thing I asked him when he and his wife arrived at our home for our cookware demonstration. "So, Ernesto, how do you like selling?"
"I love it," he said. "I really like interacting with people, and showing them what a great product we have. It's easy when you believe in the product."
Throughout the night, he was very enthusiastic and really seemed to enjoy what he did now. I'm happy for him. It's always great to see someone excel at what they do, and enjoy it at the same time.
Passion for your job - especially in a sales career - is an essential ingredient to success. Love what you do, and you'll succeed at what you do. I know a former computer geek who will echo that statement.
