A response to Part 1 of my rant on "When NOT to Sell."

The result of this invasive selling attempt by BofA:
- They wasted my time.
- They insulted my intelligence
- They tried to trick me into pressing 1.
So, you know what? I vow to never purchase their credit check service even if I desperately needed it. Never ever, ever.
The lessons for sales professionals in all this?
- There's a time NOT to sell. This would be one instance. At a funeral might be another, or while visiting new parents at the hospital, or just before you sing hymns at church.
- There's a way to phrase your sales message. Don't treat people like they're stupid. I know BofA didn't need two minutes to "activate" my account, but that's what they tried to pass off their commercial time as...they really needed that time to do a background check, plug in everything, and flip all the switches on to make my ATM card work.
- Don't try to force me to "press" the options you want. And certainly don't take up valuable time to try and make me do it.
There's a time to sell, and there's a time NOT to sell.
