So, I went down the street to find another store. Amazing thing about cell phone stores...there's one on every few blocks. Sure enough, two blocks away, I found another Cingular store.
I walked in, hoping for better service. Stupid, stupid me...
The store was packed. There were seventeen people waiting around their circular desk, with two cashiers behind the desk. One salesperson was hurrying around the store trying to solve a problem for someone.
I waited...and waited...and waited...
...nobody from Cingular made eye contact. Nobody seemed particularly happy that people were there to buy from them. Nobody came over and asked if I had been helped, or aologized for the wait and told me that they'd be with me as soon as possible. If they had, I would have waited.
I stood around for about 10 minutes, and then left.
The sales lessons learned:
- Not hiring people who want to be salespeople will cost you money. If you're someone who doesn't want to be a saleperson, find another job. You're costing yourself money, and the company you work for.
- The same lesson in Part I of this sad little mini-series.
- If you consistently display poor service, websites like this will spring up and talk about you and your company. Guaranteed.
