Nobody discounts the tragedy occuring in Darfur, and the need for intervention by someone at some level. Since this isn't a political blog, I'll leave that part of it alone for now.
But Seth Godin's post about the subject will certainly generate some interest in the topic with his readers at his blog (which needs to be on your daily read list). His instructions are for you to send a one word fax to your representative(s) in Washington...that one word on the fax being, "Darfur."
Leave it to me to squeeze out a sales lesson from a tragic situation in Africa, but here it goes: Simplicity is almost always the best way to get the attention of someone. Form letters, the kind most activists, concerned citizens, et al try to get you to send are in the same category as "junk mail", in my opinion. But that one word, "Darfur", is bound to get the attention of a Congressman or Senator.
So, in your next sales presentation/cold call/client meeting, try a little simplicity. It might result in more digging for answers and details from your clients and customers than you would get ramming 84 pages of graphs and supporting material down their throat (i.e., your "normal" sales presentation).
