In 1973, a salesperson could probably pretty much set the rules and run the show. You could set a minimum order...charge up the wazoo...in general, force a customer into your box.
Seth Godin's example today about eCommerce shopping carts, and how to lose customers when you set ridiculous rules for shopping and then are rude when you explain those rules.
A minimum order? Forcing people to shop more? Come on...its 2006, folks.
If you're selling something, online or B2B, please realize that your customer is king (or queen). They set the rules. They have options, and they'll go elsewhere if you're rude or set ridiculous rules.
Businesses and sales people never cease to amaze me...
