If you want to suck at sales, but do it with a little flare of academic superiority, then make your proposals and marketing materials really confusing.
Pack as much information into one page as possible. Include a lot of big words, complicated spreadsheets, and some graphs.
Don't be fooled: Your customers really, really want to hear all about you and your company. And, they like it when you talk about how much money you're going to save them (after all, you did spend 10 minutes asking some questions about their business...so, you're fully qualified to include a full financial analysis of their company and the implications of this purchase that you want them to make).
One last word: Do NOT make it simple to understand and straight to the point. Doing so will jeopardize your path to "sucking at sales".

Funny photo, funny article and absolutely true.
