Selling at the Pro Bowl

The week after the Super Bowl.  Time to kick back in Hawaii, play a relaxed Pro Bowl game, enjoy the weather.

But it's also a time to network.  Get to know other players, other GM's, other owners, other coaches.  Because you never know...you might want to call one of those guys for a job someday!

Another type of selling also takes place at the Pro Bowl, at least for some of the players (like this guy in the Hawaiian shirt, who just happens to be one of the best defensive players in the NFL).

Here's an excerpt from a DenverBroncos.com article covering some of their players selected to play in the Pro Bowl.  Saftey John Lynch has an interesting approach on "selling" his team to other players:

"(Players from other teams) ask little things about Denver Head Coach Mike Shanahan. People are always curious (asking), 'What's your place like?'" Lynch said.

The long-time Pro Bowler is happy to provide not only an answer, but a vigorous endorsement.

"I'm selling the Broncos to them, and it's not a hard thing to sell," Lynch said. "Actually, a lot of my routes to Denver started here (in Hawai'i). I met (Broncos' owner) Mr. and Mrs. Bowlen at a Pro Bowl function years ago, and I met Mike and his wife for the first time over here, as well.

"You never know when you meet someone if that has an impression."

All Lynch is trying to do is get fellow Pro Bowlers to consider the same path he traversed in moving on to Denver for another phase of a pro football career.

"It's long been known around the league that our place is a first-class organization," Lynch said, "and guys are getting to see it with the way our coaching staff does things."

That could aid the Broncos in the future should the players in the Pro Bowl become free agents and consider following Lynch's path.

"It's a good opportunity for our coaches and for everyone to meet the guys around the league, maybe do a little free-agency recruiting," Lynch said. "I don't know if that's illegal, but it's a good trip."

If NFL all-stars see the importance of networking and selling all the time, doesn't it make sense that you should also?
