We had dinner recently at our church with a group of other couples. One of the women at our table, whom we've known for some time, sat next to my wife.
This wonderful women, when speaking to my wife, would seldom look her in the eye. Her eyes looked anywhere but at my wife as she talked to my wife. Once in a while, she would give a quick, darting glance at my wife, but then would look away again and focus on a point just over the left shoulder of my wife (which was a brick wall).
It reminded me of how important eye contact is when you're talking to a customer or prospect. Eye contact is powerful in selling, especially these days when attention spans are short and the opportunity to connect with a prospect or potential business associate is even shorter.
Maintain eye contact!
