(Second part in an ongoing series)
Don't Interact With Potential Customers
If you're at a trade show, hang out with your co-workers near the back of the booth. Don't make eye contact - potential customers might want to talk with you, thereby disturbing your conversation with the aforementioned co-worker.
Also, if you're at a Chamber of Commerce mixer or business meeting, don't introduce yourself to new people. Talk with your existing customers, or find that co-worker of yours and pick up on the conversation that got cut short at the trade show.
Whatever you do, don't Listen, Hear or Take Action. That will short-curcuit your quick trip to sales mediocrity faster than anything.
Don't send follow-up letters. Don't remember birthdays. Don't ask about hobbies, family or what they enjoy doing in their personal life.
To suck at sales, you should never interact with potential customers.
